Someone is bothering me

In the app, open the person (You, then Friends, or tap them in a group) and choose Report or Block. Blocking stops them finding you, adding you or sending you anything, and they are not told. We review every report within 24 hours.

A friend can’t open my split

Split links work in any browser without the app. If a link says it has ended, open the split in iowe and tap Share to send a fresh one.

Paying and getting paid

iowe never holds or moves money. Pay buttons open the other person’s own Venmo, Cash App or PayPal, or show their Zelle email or phone for your bank’s app. Marking something paid in iowe records that you sent it; the money itself moves in that app.

How receipts are read

Before your first receipt is read, the app asks your permission. iowe’s own server reads the text on a receipt photo or PDF and deletes the file right after that one read. The text, not the image, then goes to Google’s Gemini API, which sorts it into items, prices and totals. We use the Gemini API under Google’s standard terms, which allow Google to use what is sent to improve its products and allow people at Google to review it, so don’t send anything sensitive. Something dropped into a group is read the same way, along with the display names of the group’s members so Gemini can tell who paid and who it was for. A bank statement you import for a trip goes to Gemini as the file itself. More in the Privacy Policy.
